Fundación Secretariado Gitano in Spain, having a large experience in educational programs for Roma children, youth and adults, developed and shared with us (partners, education professionals and specialists) a set of education materials, as part of a Child led campaign. The materials are available for anyone interested, to be viewed, downloaded, and used in any educational context supporting Roma children inclusion in schools and in society.
The package of education materials comprises: two videos (for children and teachers), two didactic units (for children and teachers) and one illustrated dossier (posters).
- "Your words affect me" is intended to raise awareness on the prejudices and stereotypes suffered by Roma migrant children in schools, that hinder their access and permanence in compulsory education.
It focuses on the experiences and feelings of Roma migrant students from Eastern Europe.
This material targets mainly teachers in schools, but it can be used for all the educational community.
- "Dare to share my dreams" has the purpose to raise the awareness and show the positive value of cultural diversity and the contribution to the European cultural heritage of Roma culture.
This video focuses on the experiences and feelings of Roma students from Eastern Europe.
This material targets mainly students aged between 10 and 13 years. It can be used by the entire educational community.
2 DIDACTIC UNITS
- The purpose of the Didactic Unit for teachers is to provide them with materials and tools to raise awareness about the prejudices and stereotypes that Roma children encounter in schools and that hinder their access and permanence in compulsory education. It is aimed at teachers in schools and elaborated by specialists in social and educational intervention.
- The purpose of the Didactic Unit for students is to underline the positive value of cultural diversity and the contribution to the European cultural heritage of Roma culture. It is aimed at students between 10 and 13 years old. This material has been prepared by specialists in social and educational intervention. It can be used by teachers in schools to work with their students.
The dossier incorporates drawings of Roma boys and girls and their personal stories, their concerns, likes and dislikes, etc. aiming at eliminating prejudices and stereotypes suffered by Romani children in schools. It can be used so that the rest of the pupils learn about the different realities in which their classmates live, value cultural diversity, and empathize with their peers as ways to welcome and include them.
Each girl and each boy have their own story to tell, some are similar, others are completely different, and that, precisely, is what makes each story and each drawing so special and enriching. All people have the right to dream, to imagine how we want our life to be, without limitations or prejudices that make it difficult, regardless of our country of origin, our language, or our culture. We invite you to travel through these pages, in which some Roma children from Eastern Europe imagine, create, and dream and want to share it with you. And you, do you dare to share their dreams?
